Welcome to DeckStir’s Saltiest Deck of the Day, where we spotlight the lists guaranteed to raise blood pressure and test friendships. Today, we’re looking at a Raiyuu, Storm’s Edge deck that’s so combat-happy, your group’s spirit might tap out before your mana does.
The Commander
Raiyuu, Storm’s Edge isn’t just a face for Samurai tribal—he’s a menacing engine for extra combat shenanigans. With every attack, Raiyuu can untap himself or another Samurai/Warrior, granting another chance to swing. That means more triggers, more damage, and, unfortunately for your playgroup, more grumbling from across the table.
Game Plan
At first glance, this deck looks like a fun-loving Samurai party, but don’t be fooled: behind every Bushido blade lurks controversy. The core plan revolves around attacking early and often, leveraging Raiyuu’s untap ability for double (or triple, or quadruple) combat phases in a single turn. The deck leans into infamous extra combat enablers like Aurelia, the Warleader and Combat Celebrant, with the ever-dreaded Helm of the Host and Sword of Hearth and Home to facilitate infinite (or near-infinite) combat loops.
You’ll find all the classics: Godo, Bandit Warlord fetching equipment (and sometimes Helm for the dreaded Godo/Helm lock), Fervor and Anger for endless haste, and a parade of Warriors and Samurai like Komainu Battle Armor and Isshin, Two Heavens as One to double up attack triggers. When everything’s clicking, this deck will chain extra turns, make your combat math irrelevant, and have you asking “When do I get my turn?”
Power & Bracket
Despite its salty reputation, this list clocks in at a solid 5/10 on the power scale. The deck is tightly tuned, but not cEDH-level oppressive; it’s missing fast mana, runs a lean ramp package, and has only 6 true draw sources. That means consistency isn’t guaranteed, though the ceiling is sky-high if the right pieces show up.
Staples like Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile clear blockers, while Aurelia, the Warleader, Helm of the Host, and Sword of Hearth and Home are your Game Changers—the cards that transform a fair Samurai deck into a salt-dredging nightmare. While it relies heavily on combat, the threat of an infinite loop (or just never-ending attack steps) makes this a deck opponents love to hate.
Bracket 1 is well-earned. This is the list most likely to get a collective groan (or a scoop) when the commander is revealed, not because it’s invincible, but because it’s infamously irritating to play against.
Should You Build It?
Are you the kind of player who enjoys watching your friends check their phones between combat steps? Do you smile when someone asks “Is it my turn yet?” If so, Raiyuu, Storm’s Edge is your spicy, salty bread and butter. But if you value peace in your playgroup, maybe leave the infinite combats on the shelf. Build this deck for the experience—not just the wins—and remember: with great power comes great salt. Use responsibly!
