Deck of the Day: Kinnan’s Mana Menagerie – Ramp, Spin, Win!

Welcome to DeckStir’s Deck of the Day, where we highlight wild wonders from the Commander multiverse. Today’s cocktail is equal parts ramp, combo, and high-roller casino energy. If you’ve ever wanted your Birds of Paradise to finance a 10-mana haymaker—or to turn your Arcane Signet into an Eldrazi spawning pool—meet your new best friend: Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy.

The Commander: Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy

Let’s not mince mana: Kinnan is the prodigy of pushing value, turning every dork, rock, and mana-factory into a double-dipping delight. For just {GU}, Kinnan passively doubles up the mana from each nonland permanent. Every Llanowar Elves, Sol Ring, or Simic Signet you control now taps for one more. That isn’t just good—it’s broken in the right hands.

But that’s not all! For five generic and a blue-green pip, Kinnan lets you “spin the wheel” (activate an ability): look at the top five cards of your deck, and slam a non-human creature from among them right onto the battlefield. It’s like casting a free slot machine, only instead of coins you get Consecrated Sphinxes, Void Winnowers, and, occasionally, unbridled glee.

Game Plan: Ramp, Spin, Win

Ramp Like You Mean It

Every opening hand should scream “mana!” Mulligan until you see a ramp-heavy start: Elvish Mystic, Bloom Tender, Mana Vault, Sol Ring, Chrome Mox—all are aces. Kinnan comes down as early as turn two, and with just one or two dorks or rocks, you’re threatening four or five mana on turn three.

Some of the deck’s best hits:

  • Basalt Monolith: Goes infinite with Kinnan. Tap for 4, untap for 3—it’s a perpetual motion machine. Add Kinnan, and suddenly you have infinite colorless mana.
  • Bloom Tender / Sanctum Weaver: Both tap for absurd mana in multicolor decks, and Kinnan pushes them over the top.
  • Gaea’s Cradle: It’s a cheat code with all these creatures. Kinnan doesn’t double lands, but Cradle fuels the swarm.

Protect the Prodigy

Kinnan is your engine and your win button. Keep him safe:

  • Spellskite: Redirect that Doom Blade somewhere else.
  • Fierce Guardianship, Swan Song, Flusterstorm, Force of Will/Negation: Counter backup to protect your board and your plan.
  • Delighted Halfling: Makes Kinnan a little harder to counter.

Spin to Win

Once you have gobs of mana, you can spin Kinnan’s ability over and over:

  • Hit Consecrated Sphinx for cards, Void Winnower to lock out opponents’ spells, or Hullbreaker Horror for a soft lock.
  • The deck has clone effects (Clever Impersonator, Flesh Duplicate, Machine God's Effigy, Phyrexian Metamorph) so you can copy your best threats or mana engines.
  • Seedborn Muse untaps your board every turn, giving you spins on each player’s turn. This often buries opponents in raw value.

Combo Central

  • Basalt Monolith + Kinnan = Infinite colorless mana. Use that to spin as much as you want, or…
  • Finale of Devastation can fetch every creature in your deck and grant them haste for a lethal swing, if you dump infinite mana into it.
  • Thassa’s Oracle wins outright if you can spin/draw yourself down to a low deck count after going infinite.

Toolbox Tutors

With Chord of Calling, Green Sun’s Zenith, Worldly Tutor, and Fabricate, you can fetch missing combo pieces or silver bullets as situations demand.

Power & Bracket: Why Not Just cEDH?

You may be thinking: “This is all sounding suspiciously powerful…” And you’re not wrong, but this list is tuned for a bracket 1 experience, not cEDH. Why?

  • It leans toward value over raw speed: There’s only a few “must-stop” infinite combos, and the rest of the deck is packed with splashy, high-cost threats rather than hyper-efficient stax or turbo lines.
  • No fast tutors for the win: While it runs a healthy tutor suite, there’s no Demonic Consultation or Ad Nauseam shenanigans.
  • Plays fair (mostly): You can certainly overpower the table, but the deck’s primary play patterns are “ramp, spin, value haymaker,” not “win on turn 2.”
  • Interaction suite is moderate: You’ve got blue’s best, but not the whole cEDH control shell.

This puts Kinnan’s Mana Menagerie at an accessible 0/10 power according to our bracket system—it’s strong, but not oppressive, and still leaves plenty of room for opponents to play Magic before you start clowning with infinite mana.

If you love:

  • Mana ramp so wild it needs its own accountant
  • Card advantage engines that feel like cheating
  • Jamming huge threats ahead of schedule and letting the table sweat

…Kinnan’s Mana Menagerie is ready for you. The lines are simple, the plays are explosive, and the high rolls are spectacular. It’s friendly to newer pilots (ramp, protect, spin!), but rewards smart sequencing and resource management.

Just don’t be surprised if your pod starts packing extra artifact hate. This deck is mana from heaven—literally.
