Cursed Curiosity: Y'shtola’s 10-Card Control Cat-astrophe

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed
B1Exhibition(0/10)

Welcome to DeckStir's "Best Roast" feature, where we lovingly turn the oven up to 450°F and toss your decklist in. Today’s roast: a deck so avant-garde it may be the only one that gets outdrawn by a precon’s land base—presenting the Y'shtola, Night's Blessed Deck featuring a grand total of 10 cards. Let’s take this pile apart with all due reverence (and a pinch of salt).

The Commander

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed is a unique legend hailing from the Universes Beyond: Final Fantasy set—wielding abilities that are, in theory, all about control, value, and disruption. But much like a cat who’s just discovered the joys of knocking cups off tables, Y'shtola here is more about chaos than control. With only 10 cards to her name, she’s leading a party that could fit in a booster pack (with room to spare for a rules insert and an ad card).

Game Plan

Let’s talk synergies, or at least attempt to. The deck’s pièce de résistance is Control itself—the OG blue Aura from Alpha, which lets you commandeer artifacts for a mere single blue mana. In a typical deck, you’d expect a tantalizing buffet of artifacts to target, but with 10 cards, it’s more like a snack bar that ran out of snacks. Don’t blink or you’ll miss the combo line!

Other likely inclusions (if you’re lucky): maybe a counterspell or two, a random value creature, and whatever stray artifact was lying around in your draft chaff. The game plan? Play Control on the one artifact that’s shuffled into your opening hand, hope your opponent casts something better, and then politely request a rematch because you’d like to actually draw lands next time.

Power & Bracket

Power level? A rock-solid 0/10, making this deck the Magic equivalent of a sandcastle at high tide. In Bracket 1, you’re less likely to be pub-stomping and more likely to be pub-crawling. No fast mana, no tutors, no premium removal—just pure, unfiltered cardboard energy. Your best play is probably dropping Control on your own mana rock, just to feel something.

Should You Build It?

If you’re looking for maximum fun per card, this is a deck for true connoisseurs of jank. If you want to win, or even cast spells consistently—move along. But for fans of the absurd, the ironic, and the hopelessly optimistic, the Y'shtola, Night's Blessed Deck is a monument to Magic’s most important lesson: sometimes, you just gotta laugh at your own decklist.

So go ahead, sleeve up, shuffle your ten cards, and become the true hero (or villain) of your next playgroup’s group chat.
